Blogging is a great way to get your work and your name out there! It can also be a great way of making extra money. I would highly recommend that all artists and everyone working in any creative field start a blog. The following are the platforms that I think are the best and easiest ones to use.

1. WordPress

WordPress is probably the very popular option for creating blogs. The template for creating a website and blog with WordPress is one of the best and it is easy to use. You will be able to easily create a professional-looking blog for your art with their design templates, and you will have the ability to track your site statistics, add all of your social media links, and publish with the mobile app.

You can use a very limited free version from the WordPress website, but the website address will be contain .wordpress in it. However, you will not have access to anywhere near the amount of features that the full WordPress application can provide when building a website.

In order to use the full WordPress program and have access to all of its features you will need to choose a domain host. When you sign up through a domain host you will be able to choose a .com domain name for your blog and website.

There are a few really great options when it comes to domain hosts for your WordPress website. In my opinion, the best one is Bluehost!

Bluehost allows you to easily sign up and create a WordPress website and blog with your own custom domain name. It is also inexpensive in comparison to many other platforms, especially when you take advantage of the special deals that they constantly have.

Other good WordPress domain hosts are: HostGator, DreamHost, and SiteGround.

2. Tumblr

Tumblr is great because it is a blogging platform and a social networking site that allows you to easily connect with other bloggers. It is a really good platform for people to read your own personal blog. It is also a great source to follow and communicate with other art blogs as well. Artists or fans can repost your images, writing, music, and content so you can interact constantly with new people and be exposed to a wider audience. The only drawback to Tumblr is that it is not a platform that allows you to build your own website with a custom domain name.

3. Blogger

Blogger is a yet another really good option for simple and free blogging. You can create a site that lets you focus your attention on writing and images. Blogger’s template is use and familiar like a regular word processing document. You can type in the newest technique you’ve been working on in the studio or share your latest creative inspiration with your fans. It’s good to remember that Blogger is a very basic website that has the three main features you would want out of a blog, which is a running feed that displays your posts, the ability to add in images and links with your writing, and a comment section.

4. Weebly

Weebly is a free blog builder that is easy and convenient to use for sharing images of your artwork. Weebly offers tons of features so you can easily customize your art business blog to your heart’s content without needing any technical experience. Include anything you want simply by dragging and dropping into a template. You can even edit and manage your blog from your smart phone. Weebly also helps you track your site’s performance and lets you see how many visitors you get so you can always stay on top of this area of your business.
